Peer Specialist/Recovery Training

Peer Specialists are mental health clients/consumers who have undergone an intensive training (approximately 48 contact hours) on recovery from mental health issues, and they learn how to be a resource to the mental health agency and the community.  The process of becoming a Peer Specialist also helps these consumers with their own recovery, often resulting in more and faster progress than therapy alone could do. Colorado West has trained Peer Specialists in several communities including Craig, and these people can now be found leading a variety of groups for consumers, their families, and providing support in multitudes of ways. One local Peer Specialist has worked one-on-one with other clients to help them design a Wellness Action Recovery Plan (WRAP), which allows a client to be more powerful in their treatment. Trainings are done at various times throughout the year and are based on interest. If you would like more information, please contact our office.
